Amboyna Burl Wood
The name Amboyna derived from Ambon Island in Indonesia, where much of this material is originally found. Amobyna is technically not a distinct tree species, but is the name of the burl wood from any of the Pterocarpus species.
Amboyna wood is termite resistant and have a slight rose-scented when working on the wood. The wood is dense and coarse, making it difficult to work and finish.
Due to the scarcity of the natural size of the material, it is usually used for turned objects, electric guitar tops, knife/gun grips, and other small specialty wood items.
Amboyna burl is among the most expensive and sought-after of all burls. Often Amboyna wood is thinly sliced to produce an extremely decorative veneer, used for decoration and in making of high-end fine furniture.
