Hi Kris, we actually added a small heater to ours and it is stuck on the back surface. Actually the cords aren't really a problem. We now have the two cords hanging behind the tank and it doesn't look bad at all and they don't get in the way. I hope you find a solution that works for you.

Looking into the 30 litre, but is it difficult to have a heater inside with such a small opening along the top? It seems there would be a lot of cords, etc. visible

Thank you so much bunny. The plastic plant is actually looking very worse for wear now. The algae is very difficult to remove and the leaves are starting to fray so we were actually looking into getting live plants instead. Having read your advice I think we will definitely go down this route now and see what difference it makes to the tank. Thank you for sharing your insights. Very helpful and much appreciated.

I see this comment is from awhile back but wanted to mention anyway- shrimp are typically fine in a Biorb! I've had one or two make their way into the filter but they've gotten themselves back out. Also you are able to see into the filter so you can just remove it if someone gets in and you are nervous to leave them. I try to make sure the substrate is placed in a way so as to block entry under the filter (without blocking water flow) and that has been working really well. I keep many shrimp, snails, micro crabs, and guppies in mine. The shrimp have done particularly well and have reproduced like crazy. The fry are incredibly small and I haven't had problems with them in the filter, to my knowledge. I also keep only live plants in my Biorb. It's a little more limited in plant choice since it's not recommended to use other substrates, but there are plenty of plants that prefer to float, like low light, and/or whose roots can be tucked under the rocks. You can also use live marimo. IMO it really classes up the look of the tank and the critters benefit greatly from the filtration job the plants do. I really love my tank. I keep it in my kitchen and so I wanted one that looked really clean. I found this page while looking for which model Biorb to try next!

Thanks Victoria, glad it was helpful. I was surprised by how few tiny fish you can keep in them to be honest. But the fish seem very happy with the current ratio.

I recently bought a 15 litre Biorb flow in black, nice compact size, but was advised only 3 small danios to be kept, looks impressive & seems simple enough to maintain.
Loved your review! X

Hi Cynthia,
I don't actually make or sell the biOrb fishtanks, I simply reviewed this one. It might be worth contacting them directly with this useful feedback. The link to their website is in the post and they are also on social media.

Maybe on the box you should advise customers not to use gravel because the gravel can get Wedge between the base of the cartridge and bottom of the tank. And then you can not change the filter.
