As I’m almost 30 it’s got to that time when practically all of my friends are now married, settling down and starting their own families. So topics of conversation are gradually becoming more baby and child oriented.
This got me thinking about how I would like to decorate a child’s bedroom when I have my own kids. Over the past few years I have come across some really great furniture that has been designed specifically for kids and I thought it would be worth including some of it here.
For me personally, I think it is really important to try to make a child’s room as playful and as creative as possible so that it stimulates them and sparks their imagination from a very early age. Kids need to be challenged and stretched and I think it is really important to create an environment which will keep them occupied and help instill a sense of fun and creativity into them.
For this reason I absolutely love these playbeds by Cedar Works. Getting young children to go to bed is hard enough at the best of times but what child wouldn’t want to go to bed if they had a bed like this? The Rhapsody range of playbeds incorporate climbing apparatus, slides, viewing platforms, chalk boards and play areas. They also have flowers, clouds, trees and birds lasercut out of the wood. If these beds don’t fire up their imagination I don’t know what will.

Given all the technology that today’s kids are surrounded by, I think it is really important to ensure that they do not spend all their time sat infront of the telly or the computer. I want my kids to do creative things like my mum did with me when I was growing up. And one thing I did was a lot of drawing and sketching and also a lot of writing of short stories and poetry.
That is why I really like this desk by Domo Dinamica. It is perfect for kids who like drawing as it comes with a large pad of A2-sized paper that is easy to flip over or tear off when each new picture is finished.

I also really love this little child’s desk by Ellenberger Design with its built-in lamp, perfect for writing and doing homework.

Another habit I also want to instill in my children is eating together as a family with no distractions from the telly or anything else. Meal times are a perfect opportunity for chatting as a family about your day and I think this little table and chairs by 4L would make a perfect addition to the dining room. When the kids are really little a table like this could help make meal times a lot more fun.

Getting kids to be tidy and clean up after themselves is another problem that many parents face, but making tidying up fun is key to getting kids involved. One way to do this is to make sure that the furniture itself is fun, like this great chalkboard wardrobe by Car Moebel.

And these house wardrobes are great too.
This blog post is part of the mydeco.com ‘Pass It On Kids Room series’, a collaborative blogging project. And I am passing this on to Obsessilicious and Bright.Bazaar

A very interesting post that ha s helped to understand that funky furniture also looks so graceful if used in kid’s room.
